Two new species of Eleutherodactylus (subgenus Syrrhophus) from western Mexico.
We describe two new species of Eleutherodactylus, subgenus Syrrhophus, from two separate mountain ranges in western Mexico. Eleutherodactylus grunwaldi sp. nov. inhabits the Sierra de Manantlán in Colima and Jalisco from 1300 to 2200 m, whereas E. wixarika sp. nov. is known from a single locality in the Sierra Huichola of northern Jalisco at 2400 m, but is probably more widespread. Eleutherodac...
متن کاملPlant Fossils in the Clarno Formation, Oregon
The Clarno formation was originally described by Merriam (1901) from outcrops at Mitchell and Clarno's Ferry, Oregon. Since that time the formation has been found to be very widely distributed throughout central Oregon (Wilkinson, 1959). It is composed of an unknown thickness of volcanic rocks and interfingering terrestrial sediments which contain a newly discovered vertebrate fauna and an abun...
متن کاملFossils and plant phylogeny.
Developing a detailed estimate of plant phylogeny is the key first step toward a more sophisticated and particularized understanding of plant evolution. At many levels in the hierarchy of plant life, it will be impossible to develop an adequate understanding of plant phylogeny without taking into account the additional diversity provided by fossil plants. This is especially the case for relativ...
متن کاملShifts in late Paleozoic atmospheric circulation over western equatorial Pangea: Insights from pedogenic mineral d18O compositions
The d18O values of pedogenic calcites, phyllosilicates, and iron (oxyhydr)oxides from fossil soils throughout the southwestern United States show systematic paleolatitudinal and temporal trends that indicate a significant change in soil moisture conditions and atmospheric circulation patterns over southwestern Euramerica throughout latest Pennsylvanian and Early Permian time. A progressive depl...
متن کاملHealth transition: examples from the western Pacific.
The Industrial Revolution ushered in a rapid transition from agriculture to industrialization. Some biological effects of this transition included increasing life expectancy, reduced infant mortality, and some decline in fertility. Reduced infant mortality first brought about an increase in life expectancy, but as humans were able to control infectious diseases, child and adult mortality also...
